Text:   Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2008 in St. George, Utah.

He was born in Salt Lake City to Arthur J. Wood and Ellan Wray Coulam. He grew up in Salt Lake and graduated from East High. He married Elaine Openshaw in the Salt Lake Temple on February 6, 1942.

Shortly after his marriage he was called to serve in the Navy, during the 2nd World War and spent three years on a small island in the Solomon chain maintaining an air strip.

Returning to civilian status he became an architect, and was involved in a variety of architectural projects. He was the Architectural Supervisor for the 33 story LDS Church Office Building; the beautiful North Visitors Center on Temple Square; the Relief Society Building; the original Primary Children's Hospital; LDS Churches and Seminary Buildings all over Utah and many shopping centers and beautiful custom homes.

Richard was a devoted member of the LDS Church and held many positions as Bishop, Bishops counselor, and served a Stake mission in Parley's Stake for 11 years. He was also a member of The Utah Son's of the Pioneers.

He loved bowling (bowled a perfect game once). and golf (had a "Hole In One") as well as boating and traveling.

Survivors: wife Elaine, St. George, Utah; son Ronald (Beverly) Wood, Kelly, WY; and daughters Jodi (David) Wetzel, Denver, CO; Mitzi Wood McIver, Salt Lake City, UT; sister, Helen Facknell, Bountiful, UT; brother, Wilson Wood, Lehi, UT; granddaughters: Monica Wood and Sherry West; grandsons: Richard Wetzel; Ian and Pat McIver; great-grandchildren: Jordan Gilchrist; Jessica West; Janey and Griffin Wetzel. Preceded in death by parents; brother John Wood and granddaughter Meridith Wetzel.

Text:   Utah, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, March 4, 2011 at Heritage Care Center.

Wilson was born to Ellen Wray Coulam and Arthur John Wood on April 8, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the youngest of four children. Wilson graduated from East High School and the University of Utah. He served as a medic in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge in June of 1946.

Wilson was called as an LDS missionary to the New Zealand Mission and served from April 1947 thru July 1949. He thoroughly enjoyed serving and came to love the Maori people.

He also served a church teaching mission to American Samoa from 1962 thru 1965. His wife Rosemary and children Sandra, Susan, and David accompanied him on this mission. While serving in Samoa, their daughter Cynthia was born and while there they adopted their son Charles. Their youngest child Shelie was born in 1967 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Wilson held many callings in the LDS Church and thoroughly enjoyed his service as a temple worker.

Wilson was married to Rosemary Storrs on September 9, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple by President David O. McKay. Together, they had five children and adopted one. Sandra Elcock, Susan (Alan) Aho, David (Sherrie) Wood, Cynthia (Trent) Hainer, Charles (Tammy) Wood, and Shelie (Brett) Wright. His wife Rosemary passed away on May 8, 1976. Wilson then married Marilyn Storrs Peterson on November 5, 1976. He was blessed to become the step-father to her six children, Steven (Susan) Peterson, Kris (Steve) Thomas, Mark (Tina) Peterson, Lori (Joe) Brimhall, Roger (Michelle) Peterson, and Sherri (Ray) Bird. His second wife Marilyn passed away on August 13, 1993. Wilson was then single for many years until he became acquainted with his backyard neighbor, Valerie Jean Brown Pillar. Wilson and Valerie were married on April 6, 2001. Valerie had a son, Patrick Pillar, from a previous marriage and Wilson was happy to gain a new step-son.

He worked for many years in the Public School System both as a Librarian and History Teacher; he loved anything that involved history. He also loved working in the Genealogical Library. Wilson was defiantly a family man and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He has twenty-one grandchildren and wtenty-six great-grandchildren with number wtenty-seven arriving in June. He was the happiest when he was with his family.

Wilson is survived by his spouse Valerie Wood of Lehi, Utah; his six children and their spouses as listed above, his six step-children and their spouses as listed above, a stepson Patrick Pillar, twenty-one grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Ellen Wood, his brothers, John (Kathryn) Wood, Richard (Elaine) Wood, his sister Helen (Hal) Fackrell, his spouses Rosemary Storrs Wood and Marilyn Storrs Peterson.
