Individual Note:
Simmons P. C. passed from this life into eternity last Friday forenoon, July 11th, and although his death had for some days been expected the announcement of the occurrence caused a gloom over the whole community. He was in his 48th year of age. During his service as a soldier he contracted the disease of chronic rheumatism from which he has since been an almost constant sufferer and cripple, finally terminating in Dropsy and causing death. Has been a resident of Dundee some eighteen years, during which time he has been engaged in various branches of business. His last business engagement being in the furniture and undertaking trade in the firm of Simmons & Glean, covering a period of seven years, but owing to the state of his health last April he found it necessary to dispose of his interest in the stock and retire from business, since which for the greater part of the time he has been confined to his house. A widow and two children are left to mourn the loss of husband and father. Deceased seemed to have an acquaintance with the whole community, all of whom have a good word to say for Mr. Simmons, and regret his demise. His funeral took place from the family residence Saturday, services being conducted by Rev. Mr. Coate and were largely attended by sympathizing friends. The remains were taken to London (London Township Michigan added by Bill Coleman for clarification) and placed in a vault. --- Dundee (Mich.) Reporter, July 18th.

Deceased was a native of England and formerly resided in Skaneateles from which place he went to Michigan after the rebellion. Jesse, Forest and James Simmons of this town are his brothers.

Served in Company B, 1st Infantry Regiment Michigan in the Civil War (Bill Coleman, Dexter, Michigan cat2215053@@aol.com)
